Ashley Satterthwaite received an MA in Mathematics Education from Teachers College Columbia University, and a BS in Mathematics from Weber State University. She joins the AISU faculty with a decade’s worth of experience teaching mathematics in independent schools to students in grades 4-12. She has taught nearly every course ranging from elementary enrichment mathematics to post-AP Calculus BC courses. While Ashley loves exploring mathematics with students of all ages, it is not the course that she had intended to take in her life; upon entering college, she was a journalism major with aspirations to one day be the Press Secretary of the United States (boy, is she glad that didn’t work out!).
Christina Schiedler has a B.S. in Mathematics and a Master of Arts in Teaching. She taught as an adjunct professor of mathematics at Western Wyoming Community College, after which she took a short break from teaching to take graduate math courses at the University of Utah. Since then she has taught both middle and high school level mathematics here in Utah. Besides her love of math, Christina has many hobbies and interests including hiking, dance, gardening, and beekeeping.
Amber Lee earned a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science Education and Mathematics Teaching from Brigham Young University. She has worked professionally in software testing, on-site computer support, and web development/design. Amber has taught math and computer science classes at the middle school and high school level. Amber enjoys reading cookbooks, hiking along the Timpanogos Cave Trail, and spending time with her husband and six children.
Jessica has received her MA in Mathematics Education from USU and a BS in Mathematics-Actuarial Emphasis from SUU. Jessica is in her second year teaching in a charter school. She has previously taught in a 7-12th grade setting where she was also teaching their AP Calculus Class. Before teaching Ms. Lindow has tutored for 4 different colleges in Utah, private tutored Nationally from an Ipad, and helped teach Calculus 1 and Quantitative Reasoning at SUU. When she is not teaching Jessica works for the Forest Service in her summers and loves spending as much time as possible in the mountains. She also plays for the Salt Lake City Slugs Rugby team and enjoys spending time with her 3 month old puppy.
Mr. Darin Lovelace arrived at AISU in January of 2015 and began teaching in the Middle School Math Department. Darin holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Mathematics from the University of Missouri at Rolla, a Master of Science degree in Applied Statistics from the University of Iowa, and a Master of Divinity degree from Yale University. Mr. Lovelace also has served as an Adjunct on the Mathematics faculty of the Eastern Iowa Community Colleges and Salt Lake Community College. He lives in Salt Lake City with his wife, Marcia, and their three dogs. He loves cooking, baseball (a big Kansas City Royals fan), and hiking and skiing in the spectacular Wasatch Mountains.
Matthew Chini is new to AISU this year but has taught math for four years. Prior to pursuing a teaching career, he retired from the US Air Force after nearly 27 years as a preventive medicine officer. He has a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering and three Master’s Degrees: Environmental Engineering, Systems Management, and Strategic Studies. Besides teaching, he loves running, hiking, reading, and playing games with his family and friends.
