STUDENT, STAFF & CAMPUS SECURITY 

In accordance with Utah Administrative Code R277-516 all AISU staff, volunteers, host family participants or contract laborers must undergo background screenings before any interactions with students. The level of the screening is in conjunction with their specific responsibilities (detailed below.)

Volunteers 

GENERAL VOLUNTEER POLICY 

Any volunteer over the age of 18 who visits AISU campus must undergo a Raptor screening before each visit. This includes an instant screening of the national sex offender registry. Any person who does not pass the screening will be escorted off AISU property immediately.

The cost of the screening(s) will by paid by AISU.

COMPREHENSIVE SCREENING REQUIREMENTS FOR VOLUNTEERS 

Any volunteer over the age of 18 who’s assignment includes any unsupervised interactions with student(s) in any AISU related capacity (i.e. one-on-one tutoring, driving a motor vehicle or off-campus field trips) must undergo a national and state-level background screening that includes all criminal history (misdemeanors and felony) conducted by Intellishield (screening will also be required upon recommendation of an AISU staff member.) The results of this report will only be viewed by a few select AISU staff members and will remain confidential. Records will be monitored for 7 years or until the person sends written notice that they are no longer affiliated with AISU. Please see Written Notice for Non-Affiliation with AISU for instruction.

The cost of the initial screen is $20.00 and will be paid directly to Intellishield by the AISU volunteer. AISU will be financially responsible for all subsequent monitoring fee(s).

Host Family Participants

Any host family participant over the age of 18 must undergo a national and state-level background screening that includes all criminal history (misdemeanors and felony) conducted by Intellishield. The results of this report will only be viewed electronically by a few select AISU staff members and will remain confidential. Records will be monitored for 7 years or until the person sends written notice that they are no longer affiliated with AISU. Please see Written Notice of Non-Affiliation with AISU for instruction.

The cost of the initial screen is $20.00 and will be paid directly to Intellishield by the AISU Host Family Participant. AISU will be financially responsible for all subsequent monitoring fee(s).

Employees

NON-LICENSENED EMPLOYEES 

Any staff member including full and part time, will undergo a national and state-level background screening that includes all criminal history (misdemeanors and felony) conducted by Intellishield. The results of this report will only be viewed by a few select AISU staff members and will remain confidential. All licensed educators including full and part time, will undergo a national and state-level background screening that includes all criminal history (misdemeanors and felony) conducted by CACTUS.

Contract Laborers

Miscellaneous

WRITTEN NOTICE for NON-AFFILIATION with AISU

Any employee, host family participant, volunteer or contract laborer that has undergone a national and state-level background screening that is no longer affiliated with AISU or no longer consents to the monitoring of his/her records must send written notice to backgroundchecks@AISUtah.org.

NOTIFICATION OF CRIMINAL CHARGES OR ACTIVITY 

All employees, volunteers, host family participant and contract laborers must self-report any arrests, citations or charges related to sex offense, drug-rated offenses, alcohol-related offenses or offenses against person(s) within 48 hours to the appropriate AISU representative listed below.
