AISU serves both American and international students (international students grades 6-12.) Each student has dedicated mentors, tutors and exceptional teachers, many of whom have advanced degrees from Ivy-league universities.
International students may enroll in advanced-level courses, including Advanced Placement (AP), performing arts, and science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) classes. Students also immerse themselves in unique learning experiences called intensives that allow students to dig deeper into their areas of interest. A few of these courses include: robotics, songwriting and album production, business & entrepreneurship, ceramics, a bicycle tour of Utah, current social issues, foreign language courses and fencing. For a full list of the courses offered at AISU, please see this page.
In addition, there are a variety of activities, clubs and programs centered on AISU’s international students. AISU offers monthly activities for international students as well as participation in school clubs and sports teams. Dedicated, qualified staff instruct students in the English language, as part of the AISU ESL program. The ESL program focuses on language acquisition and uses innovative techniques, such as award-winning theater and music programs, to teach all aspects of the English language and prepare foreign students to excel in US universities. International students also have increased support for college preparation. The College Preparation course teaches college writing and test-taking skills for the SAT, ACT and TOEFL test, with an individualized study plan for each Junior and Senior. AISU students also one-on one college planning with our qualified staff members and expert advisors.
AISU international students are typically placed in a pre-screened AISU host family. These families provide students with a loving home environment, private accommodations, assistance with transportation, meals and additional activities to immerse students in the American culture and lifestyle.
